Well, well, well, look who's only gone and done it again! Lionel Messi, the little magician, has helped Inter Miami win the MLS Cup. About bloody time too, if you ask me. Took them long enough, didn't it?
An own goal from some muppet called Edier Ocampo put the Floridian side ahead. Then Rodrigo De Paul and Tadeo Allende got in on the action to seal the deal. Messi set up his fellow Argies for their goals. Not too shabby, lads.
Miami's moment of glory
Inter Miami have finally won the MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield and Leagues Cup since Messi joined the club in 2023. Took their sweet time, but they got there in the end. The Herons have only gone and won the season-ending trophy just seven years after they were founded. Not bad for a bunch of newcomers, I suppose.
Tears and celebrations
Javier Mascherano, the head coach, was blubbering like a baby and hugging his staff during the celebrations. Even celebrated on the floor with a tearful Jordi Alba in his final game. Emotional stuff, if you're into that sort of thing.
David Beckham, the England and Manchester United legend who co-owns the club, was also amongst the celebrations in Miami. "All the emotion came out in the final few minutes of the game," he said afterwards. Well, isn't that just touching?
Messi's magic
Messi has been on fire in the MLS since he left Europe. The 38-year-old banging in 43 goals and 26 assists in all competitions this season. He's got an incredible 77 goals and 44 assists to his name in 88 appearances in two-and-a-half years at the club. Not too shabby for an old fella.
In the play-offs, Messi provided seven assists and 13 goal contributions, the highest totals for each metric in the competition this year. Looks like he's still got it, the little wizard.
