Guglielmo Vicario's recent comments about Tottenham's performance have ruffled some feathers, particularly those of Jamie O'Hara and Dean Saunders. The Italian goalkeeper bemoaned the lack of effort and running from his teammates after their 0-0 draw against Monaco in the Champions League. While Vicario may have meant well, his words did not sit well with the former Spurs midfielder and ex-Premier League player.
Vicario's comments anger O'Hara and Saunders
O'Hara and Saunders were quick to react to Vicario's remarks on The Sports Bar. "So, he's dug out the players," O'Hara said, clearly unimpressed by the goalkeeper's assessment. Saunders went even further, questioning Vicario's right to criticize his teammates given his own position on the field. "He's just nailed his teammates. Has he forgot he's a goalkeeper?" Saunders said, implying that Vicario should focus on his own performance before pointing fingers at others.
Vicario's performance against Monaco
Despite the backlash from O'Hara and Saunders, Vicario's performance against Monaco was commendable. The Spurs glovesman made an impressive eight saves, earning him the man of the match title and securing a crucial point for his team. However, this did little to deter O'Hara and Saunders from poking fun at Vicario's struggles with crosses, labeling him 'chocolate wrists' and 'lettuce wrists'.
The situation highlights the tensions that can arise within a team when players publicly criticize each other's performances. While Vicario's comments were likely intended to motivate his teammates, they seem to have had the opposite effect, at least on O'Hara and Saunders. As Tottenham prepares for their next Premier League match against Everton, it remains to be seen whether Vicario's words will spur the team on to victory or create further divisions within the squad.
