AFC Wimbledon have gone and done it, they've bloody gone and done it! The lads have only gone and secured their place in League One after a tense 1-0 win over Walsall at Wembley. What a result for the Dons!
Myles Hippolyte's strike seals the deal
The breakthrough came in first half stoppage-time, when Myles Hippolyte fired home from outside the box. The Walsall lads tried to hit back in the second half, but Riley Harbottle wasn't having any of it - he made a cracking block on the line to deny Jamille Matt an equaliser.
Torrential rain can't dampen Wimbledon's spirits
The conditions were atrocious, with torrential rain pouring down on the pitch. But that didn't stop the Dons from giving it their all. They fought tooth and nail for the coveted prize of promotion to League One, and they bloody well earned it!
After a three-year absence, Wimbledon are back in the third tier. And they've made history in the process - the match saw a record number of supporters visiting Wembley Stadium for the EFL play-off matches. A staggering 50,947 fans turned up to watch the Dons take on Walsall, bringing the total across the weekend to 209,858. That's a new record, beating the previous one set in 2008.
This latest triumph marks another successful chapter in Wimbledon's history since being founded in 2002 by former Wimbledon FC supporters. The lads have done their fans proud, and they'll be looking to make their mark in League One next season. Bring it on!
