Right, so apparently Celtic are close to signing some bloke called Wilfried Nancy as their new gaffer. Talk about a bloody unknown quantity! Who the hell has even heard of this mug outside of the MLS?!
Martin O'Neill, the current interim boss, is expected to be in charge for the Europa League match against Feyenoord while the deal for Nancy is being finalised. I bet the players are just thrilled about that. Not.
Who is this Nancy bellend?
Nancy is a former defender who played in the lower leagues of French football, most notably with Toulon in the 1990s. He started his coaching career in 2005 and got his first solo managerial gig in 2021 when he took over from Thierry Henry at Montreal.
The 48-year-old won the Canadian Championship in his first season and then took Montreal to second in the Eastern Conference, making the play-offs and reaching the quarter-finals.
Columbus Crew then snapped him up ahead of the 2023 season and he delivered an MLS Cup win after a third-place regular season finish. In the following campaign, Columbus finished second in the league and conference and won the Leagues Cup, while Nancy was named coach of the year.
But let's be real, the MLS is a fucking pub league compared to the Scottish Premiership. Celtic are taking a massive gamble on this muppet.
Who is currently in charge at Celtic?
At the moment, it's Martin O'Neill, a Celtic legend who is only there on an interim basis. The 73-year-old has already made it clear he won't be staying long-term. He said he's happy to be there as long as the board wants him, but he's not looking to stick around.
O'Neill has no aspirations to take the job full-time and is just waiting to be told when his time is up. Bloody hell, talk about a vote of confidence for the new guy!
So there you have it, lads. Celtic are taking a massive punt on some unknown French bloke from the MLS. I'm sure the fans are just thrilled about that. Not. This could either be a stroke of genius or a complete fucking disaster. Knowing Celtic's luck, it'll probably be the latter.
