What a load of bollocks! Peterborough United have been left fuming after their star player Ricky-Jade Jones decided to leg it to Germany to join FC St. Pauli on a free transfer.
Jones Leaves Posh for Bundesliga
The 22-year-old has decided to take his talents to the Bundesliga after his contract with the League One club expired. Jones has been with Peterborough his entire career, playing over 200 games and scoring 41 goals in six years.
Peterborough Chairman Left Bitter
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony is absolutely gutted about the way one of his star players will be leaving. After the move was announced, MacAnthony revealed that Jones rejected four different Championship teams to go to the Bundesliga, costing his hometown club a lot of dosh.
He wrote on X: "He [Jones] turned down 4 brilliant champ clubs to do this move, which has cost his home town club a lot of money. Not going to lie… it stings and makes me bitter for the moment as the kid has been with us so many years and I couldn't have been more supportive of him. But we move on and don't look back.
"This is football and it can kick you in the nuts at times."
Jones Excited for New Challenge
Jones is looking forward to getting started in Germany's top-flight. In his signing reveal, he said: "I felt the time had come for a new challenge and I'm glad to get this opportunity at FC St. Pauli.
"I'm looking forward to a very international team, enthusiastic fans and big teams in one of the strongest leagues in the world and want to contribute to a successful season with my ability."
St. Pauli Manager Praises Jones' Pace
St. Pauli manager Alexander Blessin added: "His explosive pace is Ricky's most obvious quality and often he can only be stopped by a foul.
"But he knows how to use his pace properly, which makes him not only an attacking threat but also a massive team player when pressing and transitioning into defence."
Jones is one of the fastest players in football, able to sprint 100m in a rapid 10.9 seconds. He reached a top speed of 22.3mph in League One, which would rank him among the quickest players in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
This impressive feat places him ahead of notable Premier League players like Gabriel Martinelli, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford.
Jones will now take his speed and his footballing talent to Germany, looking to make a big step up in his career.
