Former Toffees boss Sean Dyche reckons that Everton should be cautious in their summer spending spree, despite moving to a new stadium next season.
Investment needed, but not wild spending
Dyche believes that Everton will need to invest in some key areas, but warns against going overboard with their spending. He said: "I think there will be investment there. But I don't think it's wild investment, I don't think they've got hundreds of millions. Because they can't go back down the road that we're going down."
Everton have been hit with points deductions in the past two seasons for breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules, and Dyche reckons that the club needs to be careful not to fall foul of those rules again.
He added: "Obviously, you can't go back down [with] them points deductions and all that sort of stuff. So it still has to be monitored going forward I think, their spending."
Calvert-Lewin's future uncertain
One of the biggest questions facing Everton this summer is the future of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month and has been linked with a move away from the club.
However, Dyche reckons that if Everton can keep Calvert-Lewin fit and motivated, he could still be a key player for the club. He said: "He's still got plenty to offer, he's not old he's still, I think he's 27 [28], around that mark."
Dyche added: "Strikers are hard to find. And if you can get him going... you've got to be looking at it as a serious option."
