Rob Page is back in the bloody game, innit? The former Wales boss has taken over Liverpool's under-21 side. About time he got off his arse and did something useful.
Page's past glories and failures
Page was given the boot by Wales in June 2024 after failing to qualify for Euro 2024. What a mug. He was in charge for four years, winning just 15 out of 45 matches. Pathetic. But he did oversee their Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup campaigns, so I guess he's not a complete waste of space.
Wales' World Cup performance
Wales qualified for their first World Cup in 64 years, but they bottled it in Qatar. They drew with the Yanks, then lost to Iran and England. Embarrassing. And this was less than two years after they'd made it to the knockout stages of the Euros. Page couldn't keep up the momentum though, could he?
Page's new gig
Now, the 50-year-old is replacing Barry Lewtas as Liverpool's under-21 boss. Lewtas was in charge for five years, finishing 16th in last season's Premier League Two. Time for a change, I reckon.
Liverpool's hopes for Page
Liverpool academy director Alex Inglethorpe seems chuffed with the appointment. He reckons Page's experience with Wales will help young players transition to the professional game. We'll see about that, mate.
Page has worked in youth football before, managing Wales at various age levels. And he's had spells at Port Vale and Northampton. But managing Liverpool's under-21s? That's a different kettle of fish. He better not mess it up.
