Forest players need to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror after Postecoglou sacking - it's a fucking disgrace to pin the blame on him!
That's the verdict from club captain Ryan Yates, who provided his instant reaction to the Australian's dismissal, live on some radio show.
Forest sacked Postecoglou immediately after the club's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
The 60-year-old was in charge for just 39 days after he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in September – the shortest reign of any permanent manager in Premier League history. Owner Evangelos Marinakis, who stormed out of the Chelsea defeat, wielded the axe minutes after Postecoglou's post-match debrief.
It's understood Postecoglou said goodbye to the players in the dressing room before leaving the building for the last time. Forest captain Yates, who was an unused substitute against the Blues, confirmed that news to some reporter in the tunnel.
Describing the moment he found out, the 27-year-old said:
“Ange came in after the game, debriefed the game, and then I went out to do some running, came back and obviously the news had broken, that he'd gone.”
Defender Murillo was spotted by fans liking Forest's statement announcing Postecoglou's sacking on Instagram. However, Yates took the opposing view by claiming the players need to take responsibility while calling for his teammates to put things right.
He added: “We speak to people in the boardroom quite often. That's not anything out of the norm. Obviously, some things I can't discuss, but what I can say is that we need to do more as players. It starts with us on the pitch.
“We haven't been good enough. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror individually, and we need to put things right. We owe it to the supporters clapping us off at the end after a 3-0 home defeat.
“You're not getting that many places, and it's a little bit humbling for us, and we need to do everything we can to change it around.”
