Right, so the big knobs at Plymouth Argyle are sticking by their man Tom Cleverley, despite the team being utter shite this season. The chief executive, some mug called Paul Berne, has come out and said that Cleverley is the right bloke for the job and they need to keep things consistent. What a load of bollocks!
Cleverley's vote of confidence
This Berne fella reckons that Cleverley is a young, bright, ambitious manager who can be a big part of Plymouth's future. He says they need stability and success, but that will take time. Time? Time to do what, get relegated again? The lads were shite last season and they're even worse now!
Berne goes on about how there's been loads of changes at the club and that's made it hard to find any consistency. Well, no shite Sherlock! You don't need to be a footy expert to work that one out. But giving Cleverley more time isn't going to magically fix everything, is it?
Cleverley's record at Plymouth
Since Cleverley took over in June, he's won just four league games out of 14. That's not good enough, no matter how you dress it up. The team's form has been shite recently too, with just two wins in their last 14 games. If that doesn't scream "sack me", I don't know what does.
What has Cleverley said on his future?
Cleverley himself has admitted that his future at Plymouth is looking a bit ropey. He said the club has never been one to sack managers willy-nilly, but that doesn't mean he's got nine lives. He knows he needs to turn things around quickly, but I reckon he's just not cut out for the job.
In the end, it doesn't matter what this Berne mug or Cleverley himself says. If the team keeps playing like a bunch of muppets, the fans will be calling for blood and the club will have no choice but to give him the boot. That's just the way it goes in the beautiful game, mate.
