Rob Edwards is now the frontrunner to take the reins at Wolves, with Gary O'Neill pulling out of the race for the job. The former Wolves defender and ex-under-23 coach is believed to have a release clause in his contract with Middlesbrough, making him a prime target for the Molineux club.
Edwards the leading contender
Edwards is well-regarded among the staff at Wolves and has strong ties to the area, having spent four years at the club as a player and coaching the youth teams. His success with Luton Town, guiding them to promotion to the Premier League, has also caught the eye of the Wolves hierarchy.
Wolves in crisis
The club is currently bottom of the Premier League table, with just two points from ten games, and eight points adrift of safety. The new manager will have a tough task on their hands to turn things around and avoid relegation.
Ten Hag also in the running
Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is also being considered for the role, but Edwards is thought to be ahead of him on the list of targets. Ten Hag won the League Cup and secured Champions League qualification in his first season at Old Trafford but struggled in his second campaign before being sacked.
The search for a new manager has been a frustrating one for Wolves' owners, with O'Neill initially appearing to be the favourite before pulling out of the running. Robbie Keane is also said to be interested in the job but is not a main contender.
Whoever takes over at Molineux will have a massive challenge on their hands to keep the club in the top flight and turn around their fortunes on the pitch.
