Robin van Persie's lad, Shaqueel, got his chance to shine in the Eredivisie, and it weren't no bloody act of nepotism, alright?
Father and son duo in the Eredivisie
The ex-Arsenal and Manchester United legend chucked his 19-year-old son into the Dutch league just days after his senior debut. Shaqueel had been warming the bench during Feyenoord's 4-2 loss to NEC Nijmegen, but he finally got his shot in the Eredivisie.
Van Persie's motives were questioned when he brought on his son in the second half of their 3-1 Europa League loss to Celtic. But he didn't give a toss about what anyone thought, and gave Shaqueel his Eredivisie debut against Telstar.
Telstar are the bloody underdogs, sitting at the bottom of the Eredivisie. Anything less than three points for Feyenoord would be a bloody embarrassment. That's what European football expert Andy Brassell reckons, anyway.
Shaqueel not given special treatment
Brassell doesn't think Shaqueel got his chance because of his old man. He's been at Feyenoord for a while, doing well in the academy before his dad got the job. So it's not like he was just handed the opportunity on a silver platter.
Shaqueel's got some of his dad's footy skills too. He got a yellow card for kicking the ball away during a free kick, just like his old man did back in 2011. And he even tried to delay a free kick, pretending he didn't know what was going on. Cheeky bastard.
He's got some street smarts, that's for sure. And he's not afraid to use them, even if it means risking another yellow card. He's a wily little bugger, and he's only 18!
