Prior to Kane's breakthrough at Tottenham, another striker considered himself the club's top dog.
Spurs' striker woes before Kane
Tottenham, under the watchful eye of their tight-fisted chairman Daniel Levy, splashed the cash on their squad in a desperate attempt to close the gap on the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and their bitter rivals Arsenal.
In their quest for silverware, Spurs made the baffling decision to sign Emmanuel Adebayor - an ex-Arsenal frontman who had left the Gunners on frosty terms two years earlier. Adebayor didn't think twice about signing for their rivals, first on loan and then on a lucrative permanent deal.
Adebayor's fall from grace
Adebayor quickly became one of the club's top earners and a leader in the dressing room. However, his reign as the club's top striker was short-lived, with Harry Kane waiting in the wings, ready to take his chance.
After completing four separate loan spells, Kane was eager to prove himself at Tottenham. The opportunity came when Tim Sherwood took over from Andre Villas-Boas in 2013, and Kane quickly ousted Adebayor to lead the Spurs attack.
The rise of Harry Kane
USA goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who was between the posts at the time, recalls the moment Kane took over from Adebayor. Friedel spoke highly of Adebayor's attitude, calling him a "lovely guy" who caused no issues, even when he wasn't in someone's plans.
It was Mauricio Pochettino who finally resolved the situation, putting his trust in Kane while allowing Adebayor to secure a move to Crystal Palace. The rest, as they say, is history, with Kane going on to become Tottenham's all-time leading scorer.
