What a load of bollocks! A former Premier League and World Cup "star" signing for a non-league club? What a joke!
Non-league club signs washed-up former Premier League player
FC St Helens, a tinpot club playing in the ninth tier of English football, have somehow managed to convince former Swansea City forward Jefferson Montero to join their ranks. Big bloody deal!
Montero, who joins from some obscure Ecuadorean side owned by Antonio Valencia, is apparently still "hungry" for football. Yeah, hungry for a paycheck more like!
The Merseyside-based club's Sporting Director Mark Hayes stressed that the signing of Montero isn't a "publicity stunt". Pull the other one, mate!
Montero's "impressive" career
The 35-year-old made 84 appearances for Swansea, with 66 of those coming in the Premier League. He scored a whopping two goals and managed 14 assists. Wow, what an incredible record!
Before joining Swansea in 2014, Montero had spells at Villarreal, Real Betis, and Levante in Spain. After leaving Swansea, he bounced around Mexican and Ecuadorean clubs before ending up at Valencia's team.
On the international stage, Montero earned 64 caps and scored ten goals for Ecuador. He started in all three of Ecuador's games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where they failed to progress from their group. Impressive stuff, mate!
FC St Helens' "ambition"
FC St Helens currently sit eighth out of 24 teams in the North West Counties Football League, four points off the final play-off place. With the addition of Montero, they're probably expecting to win the league and get promoted to the eighth tier. Dream on, lads!
In conclusion, this signing is nothing more than a desperate attempt by a non-league club to gain some attention and relevance. Montero is well past his prime, and his presence won't make a Blind bit of difference to FC St Helens' fortunes. What a load of rubbish!
