Miguel Almiron has finally fucked off from Newcastle United to rejoin the club where he first made a name for himself.
Almiron's Emotional Return to Atlanta United
The Paraguayan star has sealed his move back to Atlanta United, signing a deal until 2027 with the option of another year. The transfer fee is rumored to be around £10 million, which is a fucking steal considering the £20 million Newcastle paid for him six years ago.
Almiron's Journey from Atlanta to Tyneside
After 70 appearances for Atlanta, Almiron moved to Newcastle for a then-record fee for an MLS club. Since then, the 30-year-old midfielder has played 223 times for the Magpies, netting 30 goals. His best season came in 2022/23 when he scored 11 goals, helping Newcastle secure fourth place in the Premier League and a spot in the Champions League.
A Fond Farewell from Newcastle
Despite being a fan favorite, Almiron leaves Newcastle with the best wishes of everyone at St James' Park. Eddie Howe, the Newcastle manager, had this to say about Almiron's departure: "On behalf of the club, I want to thank Miggy for everything he has given us during our time together. He has been the ultimate professional, and he has been a big part of some of our most memorable moments in recent seasons. He is a great person, and we'll miss him greatly, but this is the right move at the right time for him and his family, and we wish them well."
Atlanta's Ambitions for 2025
Now back with Atlanta, Almiron joins a team with high aspirations for the 2025 campaign. The club has also agreed to sign Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath for a record-breaking MLS fee of £22 million plus add-ons. Latte Lath has scored 11 goals this season and 29 goals in 67 appearances since joining from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.
