Ex-Top Flight Gaffer Could Take Over Boro's Reigns from Carrick

Michael Carrick is feeling the heat at Middlesbrough after a shambolic run of just three wins in 15 bloody matches. The bloke's got the Boro fans booing him and calling for his head on a plate.

Steve Cooper a contender for Boro job

If Boro owner Steve Gibson grows a pair and decides to sack Carrick, Steve Cooper could be the mug to replace him. But let's be real, Cooper's not exactly chomping at the bit to get back into management after only being out of the game for three months.

Boro struggling under Carrick

Boro got absolutely battered 1-0 at home to Watford on Saturday, their fifth defeat in six games. Carrick's boys are now languishing in 11th place in the Championship, a whopping four points off the play-off spots. Pathetic.

Carrick's tenure at Boro

Carrick took over at the Riverside in October 2022 after a brief caretaker stint at Manchester United. He somehow managed to scrape into the play-offs that season but could only guide Boro to a dismal eighth-place finish last term.

Carrick's reaction to the defeat

After the latest embarrassment against Watford, Carrick spat out some nonsense to the BBC about the team's attitude being "top-class" and how proud he is of them for "trying" in the second half. Give me a break. The bloke needs to take a long hard look at himself in the mirror.

Up next for Boro

Boro face a tricky away trip to Bristol City on Friday night. A win would see them leapfrog the Robins in the table, but based on current form, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Cooper's managerial record

Cooper's last gig in the Championship saw him lead Nottingham Forest to Premier League promotion three years ago. Forest then somehow avoided relegation under his watch before he got the boot in December 2023. The bloke's hardly pulled up any trees since.

Blackburn also managerless

In other Championship news, Blackburn are also without a gaffer after John Eustace legged it to Derby last week. Rovers have yet to appoint a permanent successor, with David Lowe currently keeping the seat warm as caretaker. The state of that club, I tell ya.
