Lucas Paqueta's future in the beautiful game is looking proper grim after a fresh twist in the investigation into his dodgy conduct.
The Investigation
The Brazilian muppet is being investigated in both the UK and Brazil for 'spot-fixing'. He's alleged to have purposely picked up four bookings for some quick cash. The FA reckon 'one or more persons' benefited from this financially.
Denials and Evidence
Paqueta's given evidence to the Brazilian Senate Commission, but despite being 'suspected of game manipulation' by Brazilian investigators, he's facing no further action in Brazil. However, he's still got an FA hearing next month. If found guilty, the bellend reportedly faces a lifetime ban from footy.
Paqueta's denying any wrongdoing, saying last year he'd 'fight with every breath' to clear his name. But now, South American footy expert Tim Vickery claims one of his bookings was a 'birthday present' to his brother Matheus. What a mug!
Vickery also mentioned that the alleged ringleader of this betting scheme is Paqueta's uncle, Bruno Tolentino, who took the fifth when called to give evidence. The commission of inquiry in Brazil recommended criminal charges for Tolentino.
Net Closing In
So, the net seems to be closing in on Paqueta. Vickery said, "I watched him grow with Flamengo. It's very, very sad what I fear is going to happen to him, but it's not looking good."
Since joining West Ham in 2022, Paqueta's been a key player, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists in 110 appearances. This term, he's managed five goals in 26 appearances in all competitions. But if found guilty, his footy career could be over. What a waste of talent, innit?
