When Bayern Munich come knocking, you don't hesitate, you get your arse in gear and go!

A dream move snatched away

But life's a proper bitch sometimes, and for Kasper Schmeichel, his hopes of joining the German giants were shattered faster than a pint glass in a pub brawl.

Bayern were left scrambling for a keeper after Manuel Neuer broke his bloody leg in half while on some posh skiing trip. With the German out for ten months, they turned their sights on Schmeichel, who was playing in France at the time.

The Dane knew it was only a short-term gig, but it was Bayern - of course he was going to take it! "Everything was sorted, I was practically on the plane," Schmeichel said. "But then it all went tits up."

Typical Bayern, leaving a top keeper hanging like a soggy tea bag. But Schmeichel's not bitter. "Everything happens for a reason," he said. "I'm chuffed to be at Celtic now."

From Nice to Munich to Glasgow

Schmeichel has been solid for Celtic since signing last summer, and now he's got his shot at the Champions League again. He's played against some big names before, but Bayern is another level.

He was ready to sign anything Bayern threw at him, no questions asked. "Just send the bloody contract, I'll sign it no matter what!" Schmeichel laughed. But it wasn't meant to be.

Bayern ended up getting some Swiss bloke, Yann Sommer, instead. Probably for the best, considering how Bayern treat their keepers.

Defying the odds

Now Schmeichel and Celtic have a mountain to climb if they want to beat Bayern and make it to the Champions League knockout stages. But if anyone knows about defying the odds, it's Schmeichel.

He was part of that mental Leicester team that won the Premier League in 2016. So why can't he do it again with Celtic? "It would be a massive achievement, putting Bayern out," Schmeichel said. "But I've been part of teams that have done the impossible before. So why not?"

You tell 'em, Kasper! Stick it to Bayern and show them what they missed out on!
