Robin van Persie has been named the new gaffer at Feyenoord, and I've got to say, I'm not too chuffed about it, mate.
A Controversial Choice
Look, I know the bloke's got history with the club, but that doesn't mean he's the right man for the job. He's only just started his managerial career at Heerenveen, and now he's jumping ship mid-season? It's a right kick in the teeth for Heerenveen, if you ask me.
A Lack of Experience
Van Persie may have been a decent player in his time, but that doesn't automatically make him a good manager. He's barely had time to get his feet under the table at Heerenveen, and now he's off to Feyenoord? It's a bit rich, if you ask me. What does he know about managing a top club like Feyenoord?
A Questionable History
And let's not forget how he left Arsenal high and dry back in 2012. He claimed the club wasn't matching his ambitions, but it looked more like he was just chasing a bigger pay packet at Manchester United. It left a sour taste in the mouth, that's for sure.
A Tough Road Ahead
Feyenoord are currently fourth in the Eredivisie, 14 points behind leaders Ajax. It's going to be a tough job for Van Persie to turn things around, especially given his lack of experience. I wouldn't be surprised if he falls flat on his face.
A Disappointing Appointment
All in all, I'm not impressed by this appointment. It smacks of sentimentality rather than good sense. Feyenoord should have gone for someone with more experience and a proven track record, instead of just opting for a familiar face. Time will tell, but I reckon they'll live to regret this decision.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just a football thug who loves the beautiful game. It's not like my opinion matters, right? Well, bollocks to that. I've got a right to my opinion, and my opinion is that this is a load of old tosh. Van Persie may have been a hero on the pitch, but that doesn't mean he'll be a hero in the dugout. Feyenoord fans better brace themselves for a bumpy ride.
