Those bloody Brentford fans have had to drag out their goodbyes to their shitty old ground, Griffin Park, for far too long, innit?
Griffin Park's slow demise
In September 2020, the Bees finally said farewell to their decrepit old stadium after a measly 116 years. The place was a fuckin' relic, mate. But even though they said their goodbyes, the old girl is still clinging on like a desperate ex who can't take a hint.
The demolition that's taking forever
Demolition started ages ago, but new snaps from COPA90 show that the old bint hasn't changed much since. It's like the wrecking ball took one look at the place and thought, "nah, I can't be arsed." One stand is still up, and the rest of the ground looks like a post-apocalyptic shithole.
The developer's grand plans
Griffin Park, known for having a pub on every corner (probably the only decent thing about it), was handed over to some tossers called EcoWorld London in 2020. They've got these grand plans to build 149 new homes, with a paltry 41 houses and the rest being poxy apartment blocks. They're also promising some green space, but I'll believe that when I see it.
Brentford's move to the big leagues
Griffin Park missed out on Brentford's triumphant return to the top flight. The team moved into the Gtech Community Stadium in 2020 and managed to avoid another play-off final choke. They've been in the Premier League ever since, finishing as high as ninth in the 2022/23 season. Not too shabby for a bunch of pub crawlers.
Fans still clinging to the past
But some fans are still sentimental about Griffin Park, even though they never got to properly say goodbye. The ground closed during the height of the COVID pandemic, so there was no big send-off. But hey, at least the locals can still pop by and reminisce about the good old days of watching football in a crumbling shitheap.
