Crawley Town have finally grown a pair and given Rob Elliot the boot with just nine games left to avoid relegation from League One.
The club's currently lingering in 22nd place, a whopping 12 points from safety in the third tier of English footy. Relegation is looking more likely than a pint after a match.
Elliot's Reign of Failure
Elliot, a former goalkeeper for Charlton Athletic and Newcastle United, took the reins in October. But the muppet only managed to secure six wins out of 33 matches in charge at Crawley. The club have now announced his long-overdue departure.
The club's statement was the usual drivel, thanking Elliot for his "efforts" and wishing him "all the best for the future". A bit late for that, innit?
Fans React with Disappointment
Fans on social media have been left fuming by the timing of the decision. One fan on X said, "Horrendous timing, you're already down." Another added, "Too late already down." A third said, "Cruel Crawley doing this," while a fourth commented, "Too little too late."
Elliot's Track Record
Elliot left National League side Gateshead to take over at the League One club. He led them to a sixth place finish in the National League last season and to FA Trophy glory. But clearly, he couldn't cut it in the big leagues.
Crawley are winless in their past eight League One fixtures, with their last win coming against Stevenage in February. They've only managed to score six goals and have conceded 18 since then. Relegation would mean an instant return to League Two after their promotion via the play-off final last season.
The Aftermath
Elliot's sacking means 43 of the 92 clubs have now sacked their managers across the football league this season. It's a tough world out there, and if you can't handle the heat, you'll get the boot. Elliot's just another casualty in the beautiful game.
