Right, listen up you muppets! Crystal Palace are tryin' their hardest to keep hold of their gaffer Oliver Glasner, despite some sniffin' around from thoseRB Leipzig wankers. And who can blame 'em? The bloke's done a decent job since he rocked up at Selhurst Park in February 2024.
Glasner's impact at Palace
Under Glasner, Palace have managed to win 24 out of 49 games across all comps, including a 3-0 thumpin' of Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals last Saturday. They're also sittin' pretty in ninth place in the Premier League table from the 41 games he's been in charge of.
One of the biggest success stories of Glasner's reign has been the transformation of striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Frenchman has bagged a tidy 25 Premier League goals since Glasner took over, and there's even been some chat about a shock move to Manchester United. Good luck with that one, mate.
Glasner's also been key in the development of young England midfielder Adam Wharton, who joined from Blackburn Rovers for £18million in January last year and went on to make the England squad for Euro 2024 just five months later. Not too shabby, eh?
But some Palace fans might be gettin' a bit twitchy about Glasner's future, given his history with Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schafer. The pair worked together at Wolfsburg, and Glasner's also got ties to the Red Bull football group from his time as an assistant at Red Bull Salzburg.
The Klopp factor
And let's not forget that former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is now the big cheese at Leipzig's owners Red Bull, and he's apparently a big fan of Glasner. Well, whoop-de-doo.
The interest from Leipzig comes after they gave Marco Rose the boot on Sunday, with some bloke called Zsolt Low takin' over as interim head coach. Rose's sacking was the first of Klopp's reign as Red Bull's Global Head of Soccer, which must have been a tough one for him given their history together at Mainz 05. Boo-hoo.
Anyway, Glasner will be lookin' to guide Palace to their seventh win in their last nine league games when they take on bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Wednesday. And if he does end up leggin' it to Leipzig, you can bet your arse Palace fans will be gutted to see him go. But that's football for ya, innit?
