Gianfranco Zola reckons Nicolas Jackson needs to pull his finger out and work harder at improving his game.

Jackson's return to action

The Senegalese striker made his comeback in Thursday's 1-0 win over Tottenham after missing eight games with a dodgy hamstring.

Since Jackson's arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2023, he's divided opinion among fans, with some thinking he's the dog's bollocks and others thinking he's a right muppet.

Jackson's performance against Spurs

In the game against Spurs, the lad only managed to complete eight passes in 82 minutes and couldn't finish any of his three dribbles. Talk about taking liberties!

Despite running around like a headless chicken, Jackson has struggled to find the back of the net consistently, which has pissed off some of the Chelsea faithful.

The striker has scored 26 goals in 69 games for Enzo Maresca's side, but only nine this season. Not exactly setting the world alight, is he?

Zola's advice for Jackson

Former Chelsea legend Zola reckons that while Jackson is decent at attacking space and countering, he needs to improve his play against teams that park the bus.

"The only way to improve things is to work hard on your game, and I'm sure he's already doing it," Zola told some mug from the media.

"If he has the ambition to be a better player, he has to work on it. Jackson has the ability, but he needs to add some more to his game."

Zola's thoughts on Chelsea's season

Zola, who spent seven years at Stamford Bridge, knows a thing or two about winning trophies with the Blues. He believes that if the current crop of youngsters can taste success, it could be the catalyst for bigger and better things.

"If they can win something, it would be massive because it will increase their confidence and positivity," the Italian said.

When asked about Chelsea's chances of returning to the Champions League next season, Zola warned his former club not to take their foot off the gas in the remaining games.

"They have to keep going because this year it seems more difficult (top four). It's a tough league. You can't afford to drop off too much. If you can do that, you will be competitive."
