Lavia lifts Chelsea, but Maresca's XI choice is a shambles!

Lavia lifts Chelsea, but Maresca's XI choice is a shambles!

Chelsea fans have been waiting for that bellend Romeo Lavia to finally do something useful in midfield since he joined from Southampton in August 2023.

Lavia's injuries and lack of game time

The Belgian muppet arrived with a £58million price tag but has barely played due to various fitness issues. In his debut season, he made just one measly appearance. What a waste of money!

This season hasn't been much better, with Lavia featuring only 15 more times. But when he does play, the 21-year-old tends to make the most of his chances, with Chelsea winning 62.5% of the matches he's played.

Lavia's recent performances

In recent wins against Everton and Liverpool, Lavia actually looked half-decent, bringing some much-needed stability to Chelsea's midfield with vital interceptions and tackles. When he was subbed off against Liverpool, the Chelsea fans even applauded him for completing all 23 of his attempted passes. Big deal.

Liverpool fans, who were also interested in signing Lavia, weren't as impressed, chanting "You could've signed for the champions!" as he walked past. Lavia just grinned like a smug little git.

The midfield conundrum

With Lavia now looking more likely to start regularly, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca faces a dilemma. When both Lavia and club captain Reece James are fit, who does he pick?

Lavia has been playing well alongside Enzo Fernandez, while Moises Caicedo has been filling in at right-back. But that means James, one of Chelsea's most talented players, misses out.

James has been at Chelsea since he was six years old and is a proud club captain. But Maresca seems to prefer playing Caicedo out of position instead of selecting his actual right-back.

It's a headache for Maresca, but one that shows the depth of quality in the Chelsea squad. No matter who he picks, they'll be missing out on another top player. Typical Chelsea, ruining football with their oil money.

The future for Chelsea

With the Premier League top five, Europa Conference League, and Club World Cup still to play for, Maresca will have to carefully manage his squad and keep his players happy. But with prima donnas like Lavia and James to deal with, that's easier said than done.

One thing's for sure, Chelsea fans will be expecting big things from their overpriced midfielder. Let's just hope he can stay fit long enough to make a real impact. But knowing Chelsea's luck with injuries, I wouldn't hold my breath.
