Everton bid farewell to Goodison Park this weekend in their last Premier League game at the iconic stadium against Southampton.
The Toffees face Southampton on Sunday afternoon, and it's sure to be an emotional one for the fans who have been going to Goodison for years. But let's be real, the place is a shithole and it's about time they moved on to a proper stadium like the rest of the big clubs.
Goodison Park won't be demolished after all
Originally, plans were in place for Goodison Park to be demolished and turned into some poncy mixed-use regeneration scheme with affordable housing, community services, business and retail opportunities, and green spaces. Sounds like a load of bollocks to me.
However, in a shocking turn of events, the club announced that Goodison Park will become the new home of Everton Women instead. Apparently, the new owners, The Friedkin Group, decided they wanted to keep 'football at the heart of the community'. What a load of sentimental crap.
Sure, it's nice for the women's team to have a proper stadium to play in, but let's not pretend that anyone really cares about women's football. It's a joke compared to the men's game.
Everton's new stadium is a waste of money
The Toffees are moving into a fancy new £800million stadium at the end of this season, officially known as the Hill Dickinson Stadium. It will have a capacity of over 52,000, which is just ridiculous for a club like Everton. They'll never fill it.
The amount of money being spent on this new stadium is obscene. £800million could be used to actually improve the team and maybe win some trophies for once. But no, let's just focus on having a pretty stadium to show off to the world while the team continues to be shit.
It's a disgrace that Everton are prioritizing a new stadium over the actual football being played. Typical of modern football, all about the money and not about the beautiful game. Makes me sick.
Goodison Park is an iconic shithole
I know I've been harsh on Goodison Park, but it is an iconic stadium. It's been the Toffees' home since 1892, and there have been some incredible moments there over the years. But let's not get too nostalgic about it.
The place is falling apart, the facilities are outdated, and it's just not up to scratch compared to other stadiums in the Premier League. It's time for Everton to move on and embrace the future, even if that future is a soulless bowl sponsored by some wanky law firm.
So farewell, Goodison Park. You've been a shit stadium, but you've been our shit stadium. Here's to hoping the new stadium brings some actual success on the pitch, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Everton will always find a way to disappointment their fans, no matter where they play.
