Everton legend's top Goodison Park moments, footy at its finest!

The hallowed turf of Goodison Park has played host to countless iconic moments in Everton's history, but let's be real, it's been more about the disappointments than the successes lately, innit?

Heart-Stopping Win Over Wimbledon

There's that heart-stopping 3-2 win over Wimbledon on the final day of the 1993/94 campaign that preserved Everton's top-flight status. Sure, it lives long in the memory of fans, but it's hardly something to be crowing about, is it? Barely scraping by and celebrating like they'd won the league. Typical delusional behaviour from the Toffees, if you ask me.

Wayne Rooney's 30-Yard Screamer

And then there's that 16-year-old Wayne Rooney announcing himself to the Toffees faithful and English football when he scored a 30-yard screamer against Arsenal in October 2002. Great goal and all, but let's not forget he legged it to Manchester United at the first opportunity. Some loyalty that is, eh?

Duncan Ferguson's Header Against Manchester United

And then there's one of Duncan Ferguson's most important goals in blue, when he powered a header home against Manchester United in April 2005. Sure, it was one of his 72 goals for Everton, but the bloke could've done more in his 272-game career with the club, couldn't he? Especially considering the hype around him.

Duncan Ferguson's Iconic Moments at Goodison Park

When asked about his finest moments at the grand old venue, Ferguson mentioned his first goal against Liverpool, his header against Manchester United, and his final kick at Goodison. But let's be honest, it's not like he was scoring week in, week out for the Toffees, was he?

And don't even get me started on that penalty incident in his final game. The bloke wasn't even the designated penalty taker, but some bright spark hands him the ball and he ends up missing it before scoring on the rebound. Talk about a bloody Hollywood ending!

The Future of Goodison Park

As the Toffees prepare to host Southampton in the last-ever match for the men's team at Goodison Park, one can't help but wonder what the future holds for the club. With more disappointments than successes in recent years, it's hard to be optimistic. But then again, football is a funny old game, and maybe, just maybe, the Toffees will finally give their long-suffering fans something to cheer about. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, mate.
