Troy Deeney reckons he knows which footy grounds have the best atmospheres in England, and mate, he ain't holding back.

Deeney's top picks for footy atmospheres

The 36-year-old, who's played in the top four tiers of English footy, has experienced it all when it comes to stadiums. But which ones really stood out for him?

Upton Park

First up, West Ham's old gaff Upton Park. Deeney played there twice with Watford, and even though he lost one of those games, he still rates the atmosphere.

White Hart Lane and St James' Park

Next on his list are Tottenham's former home White Hart Lane and Newcastle's St James' Park. Deeney called the vibe at St James' "excellent", which is high praise from a bloke who's seen it all.

Wembley

Of course, Wembley had to get a mention. Deeney played there twice, but Watford lost both times. Still, the atmosphere must've been electric for him to include it.

The Den

But the real surprise is Millwall's ground, The Den. Deeney loved playing there, even though it's got a rep for being one of the most intimidating stadiums in English footy.

"It's a bit of me, isn't it?" Deeney said. "It's a bit intense. They're going to give you s***, you give them s***."

Deeney played at The Den 11 times and only lost three, which ain't bad at all. But he reckons he was always too good to sign for Millwall permanently.

"Because without being unfair to Millwall, I was better than that, wasn't I," he said. "I would've went there at the end [of my career] and that wouldn't have been good for me or them."

So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. Troy Deeney's top footy atmospheres, and Millwall's The Den is right up there with the best of 'em.
