Kane saves Tuchel's blushes as England scrape past Andorra

Harry Kane's goal was enough to keep Thomas Tuchel's perfect record as England manager intact, but it was far from a convincing performance against minnows Andorra.

The Three Lions remain top of Group K in World Cup qualifying, but they made hard work of it against a side ranked 173rd in the world.

Tuchel's experiment falls flat

Tuchel's decision to bring Jordan Henderson back into midfield alongside Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer was a baffling one, and it backfired spectacularly. Henderson was a liability throughout, and Bellingham and Palmer were not much better.

The only bright spark for England was Noni Madueke, who provided the assist for Kane's goal and was a constant threat down the right flank. But even he missed a late sitter that would have put the game to bed.

Defensive frailties exposed

England's experimental back four was also exposed, with Curtis Jones struggling at right-back and Reece James out of sorts on the left. Ezri Konsa and Dan Burn were both culpable of giving the ball away cheaply, which is simply not good enough against a side like Andorra.

Jordan Pickford also failed to impress, despite having very little to do between the sticks. His distribution was poor, and he did nothing to justify his place as England's number one.

Tuchel's entertainment promise falls flat

Tuchel promised to entertain when he took over as England manager, but three games in and we've seen nothing of the sort. In fact, this performance was one of the most turgid and uninspiring displays in recent memory.

The fact that Tuchel waited until injury time to bring on Morgan Gibbs-White is a damning indictment of his management, and he will need to improve drastically if England are to have any chance of success at next summer's World Cup.
