Tiger Woods is a proper legend, ain't he? The man's a golfing genius, no two ways about it. Footy might be the beautiful game, but when it comes to golf, Tiger's the one who brings the magic.
Tiger Woods nails the iconic Happy Gilmore swing
Back in 2021, some of the biggest names in golf were tasked with attempting the famous 'Happy Gilmore' swing. For those of you who don't know, it's a shot that involves a run-up to the tee before smashing the ball as hard as possible. Sounds easy, right? Well, not quite.
The challenge was put together by TaylorMade to mark the film's 25th anniversary, and let me tell you, it was a sight to behold. Tiger, being the legend that he is, absolutely nailed the shot. His effort sailed over 250 yards and landed smack bang in the middle of the fairway. The other golfers were left in awe, and rightly so.
Woods' fellow professionals left in awe
If it wasn't already clear just how special Tiger's effort was, it quickly became apparent as the other golf stars took on the challenge. While some managed to make decent contact with the ball, they couldn't get anywhere near the power and accuracy of Woods.
It was perhaps no surprise that Woods was able to produce a perfect imitation of the iconic swing, with his career defined by incredible shots. During his legendary 29-year career, the American has won a staggering 15 major titles, the first of which came as a 21-year-old at the 1997 Masters. Since then, he's gone on to win a further four Green Jackets, as well as becoming the youngest player in history to claim a career Grand Slam.
McIlroy's hilarious attempt
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy had a total nightmare. He had more than one attempt at nailing the iconic shot, but his first effort flew way to the right, while he hilariously took out the launch monitor with his second shot. The other golfers were in stitches, and even McIlroy couldn't help but laugh off his huge blunder.
But let's be real, McIlroy's attempt at the iconic golf shot wasn't his last involvement in Happy Gilmore. The Northern Irishman is one of a number of big-name golfers to feature in the newly-released sequel, along with fellow PGA stars Scottie Scheffler, Colin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Will Zalatoris, and LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
