Messi Spotted at Coldplay Gig, Crowd Goes Mental
Well, well, well, if it isn't the golden boy of footy, Lionel Messi, livin' it up at a Coldplay concert with his missus, Antonela Roccuzzo. The Inter Miami star and his better half were caught on the big screen, and of course, the crowd went absolutely bonkers.
Coldplay's Big Screen Surprise
The couple were sittin' pretty at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami when they got picked out by Coldplay's 'kiss cam' – a far cry from the beautiful game, but who's judgin'?
Unlike some other muppets who've been caught out by the kiss cam recently, Messi and Antonela played it cool, smilin' and wavin' at the crowd like a pair of seasoned pros. The crowd erupted, chantin' "Messi! Messi!" and even Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, had to give the footy legend a shout-out, callin' him "the greatest athlete of all time."
Messi's Missed Match
Now, you might be wonderin' why Messi was even at the gig in the first place, considerin' he should've been kickin' a ball around for Inter Miami. Well, turns out the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner was servin' a suspension and had to sit out his team's MLS match against Cincinnati earlier that day.
So, what did Messi do with his newfound free time? He took the missus to a concert, of course! Can't say I blame him, really. I mean, if I had the choice between runnin' around a pitch or watchin' a bunch of lads play some tunes, I know what I'd choose.
The Suspension Saga
Now, let's talk about that suspension, shall we? Messi and his mate Jordi Alba were both handed one-match bans for skippin' the MLS All-Star game on Wednesday. Apparently, if you don't give a heads up that you're gonna be a no-show, you're ineligible for your club's next league match. Seems a bit harsh, but rules are rules, I guess.
Luckily for Messi and Alba, they'll be back in action for the Leagues Cup before facin' off against rivals Orlando City on August 10. And with Messi's track record this season – 18 goals and seven assists in just 18 MLS appearances – I'm sure he'll be makin' up for lost time in no time.
