Mike Dodds has been given the boot by Wycombe Wanderers, becoming the first manager in League One to get the sack in the 2025/26 season.

The club announced on Thursday that they had parted ways with Dodds and his right-hand man, first team coach Pete Shuttleworth.

Dodds' tenure at Wycombe

The 39-year-old had been at the helm for just seven months, having taken over in February. The Chairboys have had a shit start to the League One season, winning just one of their eight games, and are currently sitting in 19th place, only avoiding the drop zone on goal difference.

In a statement, the club said: "Wycombe Wanderers have today parted company with Head Coach Mike Dodds and First-Team Coach Pete Shuttleworth. The board has reluctantly taken this decision, and the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Mike and Pete for their hard work and efforts during their time with Wycombe Wanderers, and wish them every success for the future."

A stark contrast to last season

Their start to the 2025/26 season has been a far cry from their previous campaign, where they were narrowly pipped to automatic promotion by Wrexham, having spent much of the season in second place. However, their form dropped off dramatically at the critical point in the season, and they had to settle for the play-offs, but were beaten in the semi-finals by Charlton.

Dodds' background

Prior to joining Wycombe, Dodds was a youth coach at Birmingham City, where he worked with the likes of Jude Bellingham. He left to join Sunderland in 2021 and would go on to become caretaker manager on three occasions. Dodds finally got the chance at a full-time gig with Wycombe in February 2025, replacing Matt Bloomfield, who left to join Luton Town.

Dodds would go on to win just nine of his 31 games in charge, with a defeat to Peterborough on Saturday, September 13, being the final nail in the coffin of his tenure at the club. No indication has been given by the club as to who will be in charge for their next League One clash against Northampton at Adams Park on Saturday.
