Arsenal's executive vice-chairman Tim Lewis is fucking off after 18 bloody years with the club, and good riddance I say!
Who is Tim Lewis?
This geezer is some fancy lawyer who's been sticking his nose into Arsenal's business for nearly two decades. He's been a part of the club during their rise back to the top, competing in the Champions League and the Premier League. But let's be real, he's probably just been riding the coattails of the actual talent on the pitch.
Lewis' role at Arsenal
Lewis started as an advisor back in 2007 and managed to weasel his way up to director in 2020 and then vice-chairman in 2023. He was apparently the mastermind behind the club's survival during the Covid-19 pandemic and even had a hand in the transfer market. Arsenal spent a whopping £225 million in the summer window, with Lewis playing a big role in snatching Eberechi Eze from under Tottenham's nose for £60 million.
Why is he leaving?
Despite being so heavily involved in the club's recent success and even tying down manager Mikel Arteta to a new long-term contract in 2022, Lewis is now deciding to bugger off. It's a bit of a shock, especially since he's been so close with owner Stan Kroenke. But with Kroenke taking a step back and letting his son Josh handle the day-to-day sh*t, maybe Lewis realized he's no longer needed.
What happens next?
Richard Garlick, the current managing director, is set to take over as CEO, working under Josh Kroenke as part of a restructuring. Two more muppets from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) will join the board, along with some long-time advisor named Ben Winston. Time will tell if these changes will actually make a difference or if Arsenal will continue to be a disappointment.
