Toffees dodge Premier League PSR bullet - hooligan's dream!

Well, well, well, looks like the Toffees have dodged a bloody bullet, haven't they? Everton were facing the possibility of more punishment over some financial bollocks, but it seems like they've managed to weasel their way out of it.

PSR Dispute Finally Put to Bed

The so-called "outstanding profitability and sustainability rule dispute" had been hanging over the club's head like a dark cloud. They'd already been slapped with a two-point deduction for a breach in the 2022/23 season, but there was potential for even more trouble if further breaches were found.

Capitalisation of Interest Payments

The whole thing revolved around whether interest payments related to their fancy new stadium should be considered costs or losses. But lo and behold, both Everton and the Premier League have now come out and said that the matter is closed. How convenient.

Everton released a statement saying: "Everton can confirm the club has resolved all outstanding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) charges brought by the Premier League. The Premier League has formally discontinued the second part of the PSR complaint for the period ending FY23 and has deemed the Club PSR compliant for FY24."

Joint Statement from Everton and the Premier League

But wait, there's more! The two sides also released a joint statement, which said: "The second part of the case was paused to allow time for the club to provide further information and documents to the Premier League Board concerning the relevant accounting treatment adopted. After considering the further information and documents provided by the club in detail, the Premier League Board has concluded that it would not be appropriate or proportionate to continue to pursue the second part of their complaint."

So basically, Everton provided some more paperwork and suddenly everything's hunky-dory? Yeah, right. Sounds like a load of bollocks to me.

Focus on Premier League Survival

Anyways, now that this whole mess is sorted, Everton can focus on the task at hand - trying to avoid the drop. With David Moyes back at the helm, the Toffees are currently sitting in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone.

They'll be desperate to start life in their shiny new stadium in the top flight, as this season is expected to be their last at Goodison Park. But knowing Everton, they'll probably find a way to cock it up.

Their next chance to bollocks things up will be on Sunday, January 19th when they host Tottenham. Let's see if they can manage to throw away more points and make a mockery of themselves yet again.
