Morgan Rogers banged in two cracking goals as Aston Villa secured their spot in third place with a 2-1 victory over those soft muppets, Manchester United.
Rogers' Stellar Performance
Rogers started the party with a belting strike on the stroke of half time, putting Villa ahead before that mug Matheus Cunha equalised. But Villa's main man was having none of it and fired them back into the lead just before the hour mark with another sweet finish.
Villa's Unexpected Title Challenge
This win keeps Villa in the mix as unexpected Premier League title challengers, only three points off those Gooners, Arsenal. They've also got a seven-point cushion over Chelsea and Liverpool, who are languishing in fourth and fifth respectively.
Emery's Historical Feat
This victory marks Villa's tenth consecutive home win across all competitions. Their gaffer, Emery, has only gone and overseen a historical feat. He's now the second manager in Villa's history to have two separate runs of ten home wins, joining some old fart named George Ramsay who did it way back between 1888 and 1905.
Rogers' Rise to Stardom
Rogers was on fire against United, scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the season. The former Manchester City academy lad gave United's defence all sorts of headaches. If he keeps this up, he might even catch the eye of that German bloke, Thomas Tuchel, for the 2026 World Cup squad.
Can Villa Go All the Way?
Despite a shambolic start to the season, Villa have turned things around and are now looking like genuine contenders for the Premier League crown. They've already beaten those fancy bastards Arsenal and City, although they still have to travel to their grounds. With a trip to Arsenal coming up on December 30 and a clash with Chelsea three days before, Villa will have their work cut out for them. But if they can keep this momentum going, who knows? They might just pull off the impossible and take home the title.
