Manchester City fans couldn't help but take the piss out of Manchester United during their latest win, and who can blame 'em?
City's fans mock United's misery
The Premier League champions absolutely battered Ipswich 6-0 on Sunday afternoon, putting on a show for their loyal supporters who made the journey to witness the beautiful game at its finest.
Phil Foden bagged a brace, while Mateo Kovacic, Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and James McAtee all got in on the action to help the visitors continue their resurgence in form. It's the 13th time City have scored six or more goals in the Premier League under Pep Guardiola, drawing the Spanish gaffer level with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and just one behind Sir Alex Ferguson's record as United boss.
City's dominant victory came hot on the heels of yet another embarrassing defeat for their inner-city rivals. United were well and truly mugged off at Old Trafford, losing 3-1 to Brighton as Ruben Amorim's woes deepened. With City already cruising at Portman Road shortly after the start of the second half, the travelling fans couldn't resist taking aim at the Red Devils.
Chants rain down from the away end
Chants of 'you're going down with United' rang out from the away end after Doku slotted in a fourth for his side. Meanwhile, 'City's staying up' could also be heard as supporters made light of their own struggles this term. Guardiola's side endured a shambolic run of one win in 13 matches across all competitions earlier in the campaign, but City's latest triumph has extended their unbeaten run to six and lifted the champions back into the top four.
There's no such luck for United, though. The defeat to Brighton leaves the Red Devils languishing in 13th place after a tenth loss from 22 league matches. With a ten-point gap to the bottom three, they're closer to the drop zone than the top four, which is 12 points away from their grasp.
City leapfrog Newcastle into fourth
As for City, their win sees them leapfrog Newcastle into fourth place on goal difference. The champions remain 12 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand on those below them. Both City and United are in European action in midweek before their attention returns to the Premier League.
The Red Devils host Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday night, while beforehand, City travel to France to face Paris Saint-Germain in their penultimate Champions League league phase fixture on Wednesday. It's shaping up to be a crucial week for both sides, but right now, it's the blue half of Manchester that's got plenty to cheer about, while United's fans are left to wallow in their own misery. Serves 'em right, the muppets!
