Mike Ashley, that bellend, is one of the three muppets in the running to buy Sheffield Wednesday, the club that's currently sitting at the bottom of the Championship. The club was hit with a 12-point deduction for going into administration back in October, and then got smacked with another six-point penalty from the EFL this month for not paying their bills. What a bunch of mugs.
As it stands, the Owls are on -9 points after 19 matches, ahead of their clash with Derby County on Monday. But now, there's an update for the long-suffering fans as potential buyers are jostling to complete a takeover. According to the Daily Mail, Ashley is in a three-horse race alongside some Yanks and a group that includes the Dunfermline owner, James Bord.
The American consortium is made up of some billionaire named John McEvoy and the Storch family. Whoever ends up buying the club will have to pass the EFL's Owners and Directors Test, which is a load of bollocks if you ask me. The administrators, Begbies Traynor, have slapped a £30million price tag on the club and are looking to squeeze as much money for the creditors as possible. It's all about the money, innit?
Last month, there were rumours that the owners of Sheffield United, the bitter rivals of Wednesday, had enquired about buying the club. Can you imagine that? That would be a right kick in the teeth for the Wednesday faithful.
Ashley, that mug, is no stranger to owning football clubs. He was the owner of Newcastle for 14 years, during which time they were relegated to the Championship twice before being promoted back to the Premier League. He also had a spell as a minority shareholder in Rangers. Ashley's tenure at Newcastle ended when he sold the club to Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in 2021. Good riddance, I say.
Bord, that other bellend, is part of the group that bought Dunfermline back in January. He also holds a minority stake in clubs in Spain and Bulgaria. The Storch family, those muppets, have previously shown an interest in buying Plymouth Argyle.
