Coventry City plan to back Frank Lampard with funds during the January transfer window.
And owner Doug King doesn't want the Chelsea legend going anywhere either as he plans on handing out a new contract.
Lampard's impact at Coventry
Frank Lampard has been a revelation at Coventry City since taking over as manager. The former Chelsea and England midfielder has transformed the team's fortunes and has them sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table.
The Sky Blues are eight points clear of second-place Middlesbrough and ten points ahead of Ipswich Town in third, with over half of the season played. This is a remarkable achievement considering the club's modest spending in the transfer market.
Lampard's success has not gone unnoticed, with reports suggesting that some Premier League clubs are interested in giving him another shot at top-flight management. However, Coventry are keen to keep hold of their star manager and are reportedly willing to offer him a new contract to secure his future at the club.
January transfer plans
Coventry's owner, Doug King, is keen to back Lampard in the January transfer window to ensure the team maintains its momentum and secures a place in the Premier League. The club only spent £8million in the summer, and there is plenty of money available for the Sky Blues to spend in January.
Lampard would like to add some depth in wide areas, while midfielder Jack Rudoni has been injured at points this season, so a potential back-up for him is an option as well.
Lampard's future
Lampard's current contract runs until June 2027, but with suggestions that some Premier League sides could be interested in giving the ex-England international another crack in the Premier League, Coventry are contemplating securing their boss' future.
However, Lampard and the club won't engage in contract negotiations if they believe it could disrupt the remainder of the campaign. The 47-year-old is thought to be happy in the East Midlands and enjoys working at the club after 18 months out of management.
Coventry fans will be hoping that Lampard can continue to work his magic and lead the team to a memorable season, culminating in promotion to the Premier League. With the backing of the board and the support of the fans, there's no reason why the Sky Blues can't achieve their dreams under Lampard's leadership.
